Prostitution/Solicitation/Pimping/Massage Parlors
Prostitution & Solicitation Laws (Penal Code §647(b) PC)
Although it is commonly accepted as ‘the oldest profession in the world,’ prostitution still gets prosecuted aggressively as a criminal act. Prostitution, simply put, means to engage in a sexual act in exchange for money.
California prostitution law under Penal Code section 647(b) prohibits:
- engaging in the act of prostitution, and
- offering (this is also known as “solicitation”) or agreeing to engage in the act of prostitution.
Whether you’re a woman charged with prostitution by undercover cops or a “john” set up by policewomen pretending to be prostitutes, we can help. Years of experience defending against prostitution and solicitation charges guide us in presenting your defense. Frequently the police go too far. Motions to dismiss based on entrapment or outrageous government conduct is something we do that other lawyers do not.
There is often an enormous amount of political and social pressure to arrest those involved in prostitution offenses. As a result, law enforcement agencies typically invest substantial resources in vice squad operations.
Pimping and Human Trafficking
Pimping and human trafficking are very, very serious crimes. Pimping consists of receiving, either directly or indirectly, a prostitute’s earnings. It can also refer to the act of asking for and/or receiving money in exchange for soliciting for a prostitute. Human trafficking is a similar crime but is usually used to describe the illegal movement of a person(s) for the purposes of having the person engage in prostitution.
Massage Parlors and More
We have extensive experience representing people using the web to make a living. Frequently, legitimate massage parlors or escort services are targeted by law enforcement. We’ve helped many companies and individuals set up a legitimate web site that does not violate the law. If the masseuses are accused of prostituting themselves the owners can be charged with pimping and pandering (i.e. make money off the labor of a prostitute). Call us, we know how to stop these prosecutions.
